The idea of Martin Masonry Design as an official business started in 2015, two years after Martin Masonry closed it doors. Somehow while at work as a pharmacist, I thought of creating jewelry out of concrete, carrying on the family business and learning all about the chemical and physical differences between concrete and cement. Right after work, I made my first pour, evaluated the results and immediately contacted my father to discuss ways to improve the process. I also asked him to take on the business; my father provided great pieces of advice and granted me approval to continue the family business in an artistic fashion. Therefore, utilizing my father’s advice, my education and my long-standing interest in jewelry design, I created my own process, resulting in my first pieces of concrete jewelry, single post earrings. Several years progressed and multiple experiments were performed, perfecting the process and expanding designs. During an evening outing in 2017, a friend convinced me to sell my pieces at her pop-up after great discussion. One month later, I sold my pieces for the first time, and sales exceed my expectations beyond belief, convincing me to expand further and create a business keeping the Martin tradition alive. As it stands, I have earrings and necklaces available. There is a multitude of ideas circulating around in my mind to expand into other pieces including bracelets and rings.
